Four openwork squares make the body. Two more make each sleeve. That's the whole construction — no shaping, no armhole to set, nothing that has to curve.
The squares are worked in an airy lace with a solid band between them, which is what gives the top structure without weight, and the sleeves flare wide from the elbow. Boat neckline that sits off one shoulder if you want it to. Cotton, so it holds its shape through a summer of wearing.
